Sunday, January 20, 2008

9:00 AM - Regular meeting (postponed from December) at the Rutland Regional Ambulance Service building next to the hospital.  Election of Officers for 2008 tops the agenda.

11:00 AM - Annual vertical training workshop at the Rutland Climbing Gym (U.S. Rte. 4). Special family pizza party - fun for all. Try out vertical for the first time under the watchful eye of experienced vertical cavers, or fine tune your re-belay skills. Learn and practice changeovers and pickoffs, and see different ascending and rappelling devices. Climbing is available, too, plus the cave behind the wall. Gear will be available, but bring your own if you have it. No charge - thanks to the VCA Treasury. Organized by Steve Hazelton ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ).

Maidstone Cave Trip PDF Print E-mail

Sunday, November 18
Trip to long-closed Maidstone Caves. This is a unique tectonic fracture set of four related caves in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. Meeting points are 8:30 AM at the Joe's Pond Park and Ride at the junction of U.S. Rte. 2 and Vermont Rte. 15 in West Danville, or 9:00 AM at the St. Johnsbury Dunkin' Donuts downtown on Railroad Street (U.S. Rte. 2). Maidstone Caves provide something for everyone. There are some large rooms, some extremely tight filter areas, some ice, some short vertical, mostly horizontal. We will be doing some cleanup of graffiti/paint, so bring stiff bristly brushes and rags and some contractor bags. Trip leader is VCA President, Ken Moore ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ).

Natural Stone Bridge and Caves Clean-up PDF Print E-mail

Saturday, 22 September 2007

Saturday, September 29 - Natural Stone Bridge and Caves Clean-up.

Greg Beckler, the owner of Natural Stone Bridge and Caves in the Adirondacks, has been lobbying for a clean-up this fall.  Thom Engel has organized it for next Saturday 09/29, beginning at 9:00 AM.

This will be an opportunity to help a commercial operation that has been a friend to cavers for several years now.  There is a lot of wood debris in the Stone Bridge.  The water has been verylow which would give all an opportunity to see and clean up stuff otherwise not accessible for the last 3 or more years.

BTW, a week or so ago, Greg did the 1st non-SCUBA connection between Noisy Cave and the Whirlpool.  This was made possible due to the low water.

Bring wetsuits and haul rope, if you have them.
